Florida Global University Strengthens Academic Ties in Bogota: A Bridge to Global Education

A week of intense academic activity and fruitful strategic meetings marked the visit of a delegation from Florida Global University (FGU) to its partner universities in Bogota, Colombia. This meeting was held from Monday, March 31 to Thursday, April 3 of this year. The main objective: to consolidate and expand opportunities for double degrees and academic cooperation, opening a range of possibilities for students, graduates and professionals.

The FGU delegation, made up of Dr. Juan Carlos Viñas (President of the Advisory Board of Directors), Ms. Souraya Rivas (General Coordinator of Internationalization), MSc. Luis Hernández (International General Manager PSP-AES), MBA. Gloria Martinez (Member of the Advisory Board of Directors) and online from Miami-Florida, Dr. José Gerardo Guarisma Jr. (Rector-President) and MSc. Pedro Cabrera (CEO FGU); deployed a meticulously designed agenda to strengthen ties with the Politécnico Grancolombiano, the Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores, the Fundación Universitaria Agraria de Colombia (Uniagraria) and the Escuela Tecnológica Instituto Técnico Central (ETITC).

Politécnico Grancolombiano: An Epicenter of Strategic Collaboration

The university tour began at the Politécnico Grancolombiano, where the FGU delegation visited the POLI headquarters and was received by its academic authorities and staff. The meetings covered several key areas:

  • Administrative and Financial Vice Rectory:
    • Mechanisms to streamline payment processes and account management were discussed, seeking a transparent and efficient financial collaboration for the students benefiting from this agreement.
  • Vice Rector’s Office for Students:
    • Strategies were explored to strengthen the accompaniment and professional guidance of students, with the objective of maximizing their academic and personal development.
  • Vice Rector’s Office for Growth:
    • FGU’s GDP Procedure was presented, detailing the stages and requirements for the implementation of double degree programs.
  • Academic Vice-Rectory:
    • The implementation generalities for the homologation curricula approved by both institutions were reviewed.
  • School of Business and International Development (MBA):
    • The parameters were established for dual degrees in MBA programs, providing students with a comprehensive education with a global perspective.
  • Office of International and Interinstitutional Relations (ORII):
    • Communication channels were strengthened, those responsible for each institution were identified, and joint strategies were defined for the promotion of this international cooperation.

Los Libertadores: Consolidating Alliances in Social Communication

At the Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores, the FGU delegation met with the rector, Dra. Angela Merchán and her team, including Juliana Fernández (Director of Internationalization) and representatives of the School of Social Communication. The objective: to consolidate the dual degree alliance for communication programs, providing students with a global perspective in their undergraduate and graduate education. The programs of the School of Social Communication and the opportunities for double degrees were discussed in depth.

Uniagraria: Sowing Seeds of Cooperation

The visit to Uniagraria was an opportunity to define concrete actions to promote the partnership with FGU. The delegation met with key executives, including Juan Carlos Reyes García (Academic Vice Rector) and Jorge Arturo Torres Escobar (Vice Rector for Student Affairs, University Environment and Internationalization), to explore dual degree opportunities in areas such as Mechatronics Engineering.

ETITC: Opening Technological Horizons

The visit to the Technological School of the Central Technical Institute (ETITC) made it possible to define specific actions for the partnership with FGU. The delegation met with key executives, including Jorge Betancourt Manjarres (Director of Inter-institutional Relations and Internationalization), to explore dual degree opportunities in technology programs.
